May 20th Workshop Fast Approaching!


As the May long weekend approaches, folks in northwestern Ontario are becoming restless and motivated. Buds are opening on the popular and birch trees, fish are chomping at anything that gets in their way and bicyclists have taken over roadways. Spring has sprung!

Our extended winter has launched us straight into a dry season and a burn ban has been issued on all of northwestern Ontario, rightfully so. The good news, however, walleye opener is this weekend!

And being the May Long Weekend, we can always count on Mother Nature to rain! Much to cottager’s dismay, tomorrow’s forecast gives us a glimpse of hope that perhaps the rest of our summer won’t be so dry and those warm nights by the campfire are just around the corner.

Our fishing, foraging and shed hunting workshop is THIS Sunday and we’re crossing our fingers and toes the weather forecast stays just the way it is for Kenora!

Although it’s cutting it quite close to the day of, there are still two spots available if you’d like to grab a friend and join us, be sure to contact Alyssa right away (

We’ll meet at Smith Camps at 9 am and depart at 9:30 onto the famous Lake of the Woods! Safety precautions for the day’s activity will be explained before we leave dry land and then we’ll set off for the day returning roughly around 4 pm.

First things first while the bite is hot, we’ll be wetting a line to catch our shore lunch for later in the day. After we’ve caught a sufficient amount of fish we’ll continue to explore islands for deer antlers, fiddleheads and so much more! Prepare to learn a lot on this trek ladies, our Captain for the day is a wealth of knowledge.

All you need to bring is a camera, long sleeve shirt, long pants, rain gear, and shoes that cover your feet.
